When it comes to the best places to enjoy rose viewing in Taipei, the first two places come to people's mind would be the Shilin Residence Park Rose Garden, and the Taipei Rose Garden in the Xinsheng Park Area of Taipei Expo Park. Taipei Rose Garden has the largest public open space in North Taiwan, it possesses Tea rose and Old garden Rose Area of 2,800 square meters for cultivating cultivars of roses, and Cultivars Area of 2,400 square meters to showcase the beautiness of flowers. If we include the Landscape area which is under construction, the Taipei Rose Garden will be covering over 1.3 hectares in total! In the following sections, we will guide you through the history of the garden, and talk about the areas in the garden.

During the Flora Exposition, the area of Taipei Rose Garden was nothing but a meadow, and was used to showcase a variety of bonsais. To make the area presentable, large stones were used to shape a hillside-like appearance as the background for bonsais, unintentionally made this area well drained. After the Flora Exposition, the Parks and Street Lights Office realized the area is decent for rose planting and took this advantage to plant rose bonsais from the Expo. They changed the way roses are planted and began to collect different cultivars of roses.

Growing roses is a big deal, since roses tend to grow in environment which has sufficient sunlight and ventilation. It is until 2014 the PKLO grasped the way roses live and began the collection of roses. Nowadays we have over 700 cultivars of roses, including rosas (genus) of France, Britain and Asia.

At Cultivars Area , there will always be selected roses added to the area every year, while shifting out roses that don't fit Taipei's environmental conditions. If you see some roses you like in the garden, you can refer to the rose's name and Tips for Growing Roses (https://rosegarden.taipei/news_detail.php?info_id=24) on the official website, for buying roses at flower market and better success rate of growing, since all roses in the garden had been through natural selection.

The Tea rose and Old garden Rose Area was finished in 2017, the purpose of this area is to showcase tea roses, and old garden roses that blossom in Taipei. Toughness and high insect resistance are the key features of roses in this area; therefore they can easily grow up as high as an adult, and require larger growing space. Tea roses blossom in all four seasons, making the area vivid and welcoming all year round.

In 2020, the PKLO started planning the Landscape area, completion time is estimated in 2021 March to April during the Spring Rose Festival. The design in Landscape area will use roses of different colors at separate zones, to make a difference from the Tea rose and Old garden Rose Area. The area will combine vine roses and arches to highlight the three-dimensional feel of the area, with a tree rose area that has a good sense of order to show the beauty of roses. In addition to Landscape area, there will also be decorated outer nodes with benches and pavilions for visitors to take a break. Let's rub our eyes and wait, and behold the enchantment of the well-known Taipei Rose Garden!
